Painless and Safe
Cambridge Clear Beauty is a cutting-edge Cambridge aesthetic clinic, founded by a leading plastic surgeon, and we are able to perform minor surgical procedures, including mole removal, surgical tattoo removal and many day-case surgical rejuvenation treatments in clinic for your convenience and peace of mind. Our medical director, Mr Tariq Ahmad, can also perform the full range of cosmetic surgery procedures at Cambridge’s premiere private hospitals
How Does it Work?
Depending on the area, Minor Surgery is used to tighten muscles and remove excess fat and skin. The objective is to achieve a more slender and firm profile. This procedure is usually performed on patients whose body has become lax and flabby due to pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or aging. After the area has healed, patients can expect to see a flattening and tightening of the skin and muscle. The results will be a look of slimmer, Younger, well-contoured fitness.
(‘Liquid’ Face Lift) and the MD Codes System
Price from £2100 using 6mls of filler
Both fat grafting and fillers have been proven to improve the elasticity and recoil of the tissues of the face. Fillers can be used simply in very specific areas such as the cheeks for volume or the folds / creases for camouflage as well as other areas of the face.
Classically, dermal fillers have been used for decades simply to fill in defects or depressions; to add to the volume of facial tissues but both fillers and, in particular, filler placement techniques are continuously being improved; the newer fillers no longer require allergy testing before treatment. Different fillers can be used but at Cambridge Clear Beauty we offer latest Vycross range of fillers from Allergan; these fillers come in several varieties each with slightly different properties for different parts of the face and to produce slightly different outcomes but basically to restore volume and, used appropriately, to help lift the tissues.
A full knowledge of facial anatomy including the blood supply, nerves, the fat pads and ligaments of the face is essential to be able to maximise the advantage of filler treatment. The ‘8 point’ facelift technique utilises this knowledge and, progressing on from that, the so called ‘MD Codes’ is one of the latest methodologies of facial filler rejuvenation.
Mr Ahmad follows the techniques and has been trained by the Brazilian plastic surgeon Dr Mauricio de Maio who is one of the leading experts in the world in the use of fillers in facial rejuvenation. He has devised the MD Codes system which does require much more anatomical knowledge and specific training but can be used to create a more comprehensive pan-facial rejuvenation, with attention to several areas but then resulting in an overall more significant yet natural aesthetic outcome in harmony with the dimensions of your face. Particular attention is paid to ensuring that you do not look artificial or ‘filled’. The Vycross range of fillers can last up to 9, 12, sometimes18 months; duration of the improvement can be dependent on the type of filler and on where it is placed.
You will need a detailed consultation to determine if this is the right treatment, and to individualise the treatment for you.
Surgery can be undertaken to rejuvenate, lighten and freshen the appearance of tired, sagging or heavy upper eyelids and lower eyelids.
Upper eyelid reduction from £3100
Upper eyelid surgery can be helpful to improve eyes that look tired, heavy or hooded. Excess skin and underlying tissue can be accurately trimmed to help open up the eyes and look younger, more refreshed.
Lower eyelid ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty; from £1200 per eye ‘pinch plus’ blepharoplasty from £3100
These are not as aggressive as a full lower eyelid ‘blepharoplasty’ (as undertaken in hospital) but with very worthwhile improvements for some selected patients.
The simplest procedure is a ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty. The pure ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty can be undertaken as an out patient under local anaesthesia and involves carefully trimming redundant skin and a sliver of muscle under the lower eyelid lashes, and nothing else. As such, only a small amount can be removed otherwise there is a risk of altering the level of the lower eyelid but this technique is all that is needed for some patients.
A lower eyelid ‘pinch plus’ blepharoplasty with Mr Ahmad still involves removal of excess redundant skin and a sliver of muscle but would also involve strengthening and reinforcement of the lower eyelid with a special buried suture (canthopexy), a muscle hitch or both, and can also involve an element of minor cheek lift.
& other skin blemishes
Blemishes in the skin are usually either pink/red or brown/black. The latter are pigmented blemishes or moles. The redder ones may be composed of blood vessels in or under the skin. Most skin blemishes of this nature are harmless, but one should seek advice if they change, either in colour, size, or shape; also if they become symptomatic, for example if they start to itch.
Some skin blemishes can be examined by dermatoscopy, looking at the skin close up with a special instrument and thereby additional information obtained in relation to the nature of the blemish.
Benign moles or other blemishes can be treated in a number of ways such as freezing, laser, or surgery. Surgery for moles is usually of two types, tangential shave with gentle cautery of the ‘root’, or by formally excising the moles or cutting them out with stitches. Tangential shave excision often results in the most inconspicuous blemish after treatment, sometimes it is even difficult to discern where the original lesion was. Not all moles are suitable for this category of treatment. The other technique of formal excision, or cutting out the mole, will result in a scar and you would then need stitches; then it is important to place the scar in the best possible orientation to maximise the chances of the most elegant and finest scar possible. These techniques need an informed eye and experienced hand; Mr Ahmad has over 21 years of experience in this category of surgery; he will advise on the best option, individualised for you.
At Cambridge Clear Beauty, we do not pressure any patient into taking things further and would not consider treatment until you are ready and happy to do so.
using 2ml filler from £750
If you happen to be unhappy with some elements of the profile of the nose, but do not want to undergo surgery, then non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an option for you.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty uses long lasting dermal fillers to subtly modify the nasal profile and thereby improve the overall look. Mr Ahmad happens to be an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon and so has a deep grasp of the underlying anatomy and what can be done to improve the various aspects of this surgically. This experience allows him to be able to address non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers from an already experienced perspective. Good artistic perception is important for cosmetic enhancement but comes to the fore particularly when thinking about the nose. One has to pay attention not only to the nose itself, but also to how the nose sits on the face, to how the nose fits in with all the other elements of the face; the nose needs to remain or to move towards a better harmony with the dimensions of the remainder of the face, and an artistic eye is invaluable to judge what to do and how to do it in rhinoplasty. Mr Ahmad already teaches Plastic Surgeons on drawing the face and body, he is also on the Faculty of a Sculpture Course for Plastic Surgeons.
The most common problems able to be treated include a nose with a dorsal hump or bump on the bridge, to a degree, a ptotic or droopy nasal tip may be able to be lifted slightly. Small irregularities or asymmetries and even some minor deviations may be able to be camouflaged. If going ahead with treatment, then normally you might need some numbing cream prior to placement of the filler (though the filler has local anaesthetic in it as well anyway). The latest fillers can last 9, 12 or even longer before needing a top up. Mr Ahmad would undertake the treatment with mirror control, one step at a time, so you can be involved with how much of a change is happening. In the unlikely event of being very unhappy with the profile, the filler can be dissolved away fairly quickly.
If you are worried about the profile of your nose, then do come in for a consultation. We would be delighted to help you.
Pinnaplasty from £2900
Prominent Ear Surgery, otherwise known as pinnaplasty is performed to help patients who happen to have protruding or prominent ears to set the ears back. Surgery can also be performed for excessively large ears, to reduce the size of ear lobes, to correct split or damaged ear lobes.
The most common surgery is for prominent ears. Mr Ahmad has published his own version of the technique which he feels is as good as or superior to traditional techniques, but also much safer. Unlike a lot of techniques, he will usually use absorbable deep sutures so there is nothing left in the body to cause any longer-term problems.
‘Ear Fold’ Procedure
There is a new technique for prominent ears called the ‘Ear Fold’ technique which Mr Ahmad has been trained to use. It involves the use of an implant; this is tucked under the skin of the ear; it is naturally curved and so bends the ear back. This could be more appropriate for some patients with prominent ears and is able to be performed in the Clinic under local anaesthesia; suitability can be assessed and discussed with you at consultation.
It is not possible to remove scars or make them invisible; however it is possible in a large percentage of patients to make the scars look better, neater, and more inconspicuous. The types of scar revision vary as much as the variations in scars themselves; each scar requires individual assessment as to the best way to make it look better.
It the wound resulting in your poor scar was not sutured, or if it was sutured with poor technique, then plastic surgical revision and so improvement of the scar might only need the scar to be excised and then the wound meticulously repaired with as much attention as possible paid to the closure technique by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon. Mr Ahmad has over 21 years’ experience; he chose those people he felt were the best in their fields to help train him and so he is so happy to use all that training and experience to good effect; individualised for your particular concerns.
If the scar has specific elements that are, for example, uneven, puckered, ridged, or with unsightly ‘cross-hatching’ left by the original sutures, then again with excision of the scar and meticulous technique, the scar should be able to be re-repaired and the appearance improved.
Sometimes scars are stretched or thick. Obviously, a stretched scar might be able to be made finer, a thick scar usually is thick for a reason. The reason might be that there was infection after surgery, it was slow to heal etc., or it could be due to the way your body heals; very thick scars are known as keloid scars. Keloid scars can also be improved but not in every case.
If you have worried about scar, come and have a chat and Mr Ahmad will be happy to give you an honest assessment of what could be achieved to address your concerns and to make the scar look better.
Skin cyst can be of varying origin and type but in essence are lumps filled with fluid or soft material; they can be in the skin or just underneat. Most skin cysts are very common and not harmful, some do slowly disappear without treatment; others do not. Some cysts may go only after becoming infected which means that they may be gone but might have produced an unsightly, scar because of the infection.
Cysts really need to be assessed clinically, that is to say in person as it can be difficult to discern whether the lump is a cyst or something else that might need treatment, and so a full consultation is advised. Also, at consultation you will receive full information on all the options to treat the cyst, allowing you to make a more informed choice prior to consideration taking things forwards.
Some skin cysts can be treated by the so called ‘evagination’ technique. This is a specialised plastic surgical procedure where the cyst is not removed whole which would otherwise necessitate a wound, and so scar, that is long enough to bring the cyst out. With the evagination technique, the cyst is first emptied with a much smaller incision and then taken out by being pulled out from within, in a fashion a little similar to turning the lining of the cyst inside out. This can result in a much smaller scar.

Skin tags little growths of skin that can be attached or sometimes hang off the skin. They can be solitary or multiple and as one ages, more can appear. Sometimes they can be confused with warts or other skin blemishes.
Skin tags are very common in men as well as women, but they are nothing to worry about; they are frequently found on the face most often on the neck and around the shoulders, the armpits, groin, breast folds etc. They can be stimulated to grow if the skin is rubbing on itself and that is why they are seen in skin folds; if you are overweight and have folds of skin, the irritation and rubbing can cause skin tags to appear.
Patients sometimes want to have skin tags removed as they can be cosmetically unsightly; however sometimes it is for functional reasons when, for example they catch on clothes. Warts are usually much more rough surfaced or even have a ‘furry’ apex and warts are contagious, unlike simple skin tags.
There are a number of methods for skin tag removal including freezing, cautery, and surgical excision. We would advise seeing an experienced clinician to address skin tags to ensure that that is what they are and to advise you on the best treatment option for you which then should enable you to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome. Often simple removal under local anaesthesia with scalpel or extra fine scissors is all that is needed; occasionally tangential shave excision. The nature of these methods would be explained to you in detail so that you can make an informed decision should you decide you wish to go ahead with treatment.
At Cambridge Clear Beauty, we will never pressure any patient into taking things further and would not consider treatment until you are ready and happy to do so.
Mini – Neck Lift
Unfortunately, changing terminology for facial cosmetic surgery is not always very clear. There are procedures called ‘one stitch’ face lifts and other treatments known as ‘two stitch’ face lifts. Just for information, the ‘one stitch’ face lifts use absorbable threads under the skin to lift skin; the term is a little confusing as it is not a face lift and uses more than one stitch.
Mr Ahmad is experienced in the full range of face lift surgery and is actually on the Faculty of an international cosmetic surgery conference for the face, eyes and nose.
He performs a type of ‘mini’ lift which if now commonly termed the ‘two stitch’ face or neck lift. This is a surgical lift but with more limited, and so safer, dissection. It involves more than two stitches which is why it is confusing, but the name has stuck. It is more akin to a ‘mini’ facelift but with less extensive scarring. There are variations in how it is performed; some surgeons simply excise skin which provides benefit but could be limited and perhaps more temporary. Mr Ahmad undertakes additional work in the ‘two-stitch’ lift procedure by tightening and hitching the SMAS, (Superficial MusculoAponeurotic System) a more inelastic deeper layer in the face; the tension is then taken by the SMAS with the skin simply then being redraped and the excess removed to achieve a very natural but longer lasting, younger looking outcome. This procedure can be undertaken under local anaesthesia as an outpatient and is offered at Cambridge Clear Beauty.
