For so many patients I can look to the inside, to see their inner beauty; but when they come to see me they explain that the passage of time has affected their skin, their face, their body. Surgical Lineage
Mr Ahmad was trained by exceptional surgeons including Bob Campbell, who himself trained with Ralph Millard – one of the fathers of cleft lip and palate surgery. Millard trained with Harold Gillies, often considered the father of plastic surgery in the 20th century.
This remarkable surgical lineage has provided Mr Ahmad with invaluable insights and techniques passed down through generations of gifted surgeons.
Where Art Meets Surgery
Whilst at Oxford University, his Tutor took a liking to some drawings undertaken for a medical topic essay and advised him to pursue this interest. He attended classes at the Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art, mixing with art students and developing a life-long passion.
This stimulated an enduring interest not only in art, but the relationship of art to medicine, and to surgery in particular. He has taught several generations of medical students on art and surgery, leading classes for students and surgeons alike.
His lectures at Cambridge and the National Gallery in London, along with exhibitions of his drawn operation notes at the Kettle’s Yard Museum in Cambridge and the Rugby Art Gallery, showcase this unique intersection of disciplines.

Helped develop CLEFTSiS, the Cleft Network in Scotland, before being invited back to Cambridge in 2003 to help progress their regional cleft network, Cleft.NET.East.
Buccinator Flaps Specialist
Special interest in utilising buccinator (cheek) flaps in secondary surgery for speech in cleft patients, helping improve speech with fewer side effects than standard procedures.
Double Loop Mattress Suture
Developed and published this innovative suture technique. Tested at Cambridge University Department of Engineering, it was found to be so strong you could pull a car with it.
