Neck Lift Surgery in Cambridge
The neck is often one of the first areas to show visible signs of ageing. Neck lift surgery rejuvenates and refines the neck by tightening the underlying tissues and smoothing excess or lax skin, creating a more defined and harmonious contour from the face down to the chest.

If you are concerned about issues such as a double chin, “turkey neck,” or horizontal neck bands (platysmal bands), a neck lift may be an appropriate option. At Cambridge Clear Beauty, Mr Ahmad performs neck lift surgery to lift and refine the neck tissues, helping to restore a firmer, more youthful appearance.
What is neck lift surgery?
As we age, the neck can show some of the earliest signs of ageing. Skin may become looser, muscles can weaken or separate, and excess fat may accumulate under the chin, leading to concerns such as a double chin, turkey neck or visible platysmal bands. Sun exposure, gravity and natural changes in skin elasticity can further accentuate these effects.
Neck lift surgery, also known as platysmaplasty or cervicoplasty (depending on the techniques used), is a procedure designed to address these visible changes. It works by tightening the underlying neck muscles, smoothing and repositioning loose skin, and refining any excess fullness to create a firmer, more contoured neckline.
While a neck lift focuses specifically on rejuvenating the neck and jawline, many patients choose to combine it with procedures such as a facelift or liposuction to achieve a balanced and natural-looking overall result.
What are the benefits of neck lift surgery?
A neck lift offers several benefits for individuals looking to address signs of ageing in the neck and jawline. Benefits include:
- Tightening loose or sagging skin along the neck
- Reducing the appearance of a double chin
- Improving the definition of the jawline
- Smoothing vertical platysmal bands and reducing the “turkey neck” appearance
- Enhancing muscle tone
- Reducing horizontal creases and skin laxity, creating a smoother neckline
Am I a good candidate for neck lift surgery?
You may be a suitable candidate for neck lift surgery if you are experiencing visible signs of ageing in the neck area, such as loose or sagging skin, prominent platysmal bands, or a loss of jawline definition.
Ideal candidates are in good general health, do not smoke (or are willing to stop smoking before and after surgery), and have realistic expectations about the improvements a neck lift can achieve. The procedure can significantly rejuvenate the neck and jawline, but it does not stop the natural ageing process.
A detailed consultation with Mr Ahmad will determine whether neck lift surgery is appropriate for your specific anatomy and goals.

What to expect during neck lift surgery?
From your first enquiry to full recovery, we’re with you every step of the way.
Consultation
During your consultation with Mr Ahmad, he will take the time to understand your concerns, assess the neck and jawline, and discuss the improvements you hope to achieve. This personalised approach ensures that your treatment plan is tailored specifically to your anatomy and goals.
A second complimentary consultation is offered once you have had time to reflect on the information provided. This follow-up appointment gives you the opportunity to ask further questions and review additional information before deciding whether to proceed.
Surgery
Before your surgery, you will attend pre-admission clinic appointments to ensure you are fully prepared for surgery. All neck lift procedures are performed personally by Mr Ahmad, a specialist plastic surgeon with extensive experience in facial and neck rejuvenation.
Neck lift surgery is usually carried out under general anaesthetic and typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, though it may be longer when combined with complementary procedures such as liposuction or a facelift.
During the procedure, discreet incisions are made to access the deeper layers of the neck. The platysma muscle and supporting structures are then carefully lifted and tightened to restore definition and improve the overall neck profile. Mr Ahmad uses specialised surgical techniques designed to enhance the contour while maintaining a natural, “unoperated” appearance and giving the best chance for a long-lasting result.
Only once the deeper layers have been corrected is any excess skin gently removed. Fine, dissolvable stitches are then placed to secure the skin in its new position. Where appropriate, Mr Ahmad may incorporate gentle liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue under the chin or along the jawline, further refining the contours.
Recovery
Recovery from a neck lift generally takes around two weeks, depending on the extent of the surgery. In the early stages, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness around the neck and under the chin. These effects steadily improve over the first couple of weeks as the tissues settle.
Throughout your recovery, you will attend scheduled follow-up appointments, so your progress can be monitored closely. A member of the team will also contact you after the procedure to provide guidance, answer questions, and ensure you feel supported at every stage.
Support continues until healing is complete and you are satisfied with your outcome. Where beneficial, additional treatments such as manual lymphatic drainage or nutrition guidance may be recommended to optimise the healing process.
Results
Most patients notice improved neck contours immediately after surgery, although swelling and tightness can temporarily obscure the final outcome.
Over the following two to three weeks, these early effects begin to settle, revealing a smoother and more defined neckline.
By four to six weeks, the tissues soften, relax and begin to look more natural, with continued refinement over several months as the deeper layers fully heal. The overall result is a firmer, more youthful neck profile that complements the shape of the jawline and enhances facial balance.
Risks and potential complications of neck lift surgery
While neck lift surgery is generally safe when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, all surgical procedures carry some degree of risk. Potential risks and complications may include:
- Bruising and swelling
- Infection
- Scarring
- Bleeding or haematoma
- Numbness or changes in skin sensation
- Asymmetry or irregularities in contour as tissues heal
- Nerve injury, which is rare but can affect movement or sensation
Mr Ahmad will explain these risks thoroughly during your consultation.
Facelift Recovery Timeline
Understanding what to expect during your recovery will help you plan ahead and ensure the best possible results.
First Week
Rest & Recovery
Get plenty of rest during the first few days. Expect a follow-up appointment sometime during the week. Swelling and bruising typically peak and begin to resolve by the week’s end. Most patients no longer need prescription pain meds by days 4-6.
Week 2
Initial Healing
Expect lingering bruising and swelling in the lower face. Numbness, tingling, and a sensation of tightness are all normal. By the end of the second week, many patients feel well enough to resume normal day-to-day activities.
Weeks 3 to 4
Return to Activities
Facelift patients can return to non-strenuous jobs at the beginning of week 3. Some signs of surgery likely will remain but often can be camouflaged with makeup. As swelling decreases, you should begin to see your results. You can gradually resume exercising during this time.
30 Days and Beyond
Full Recovery
By now, most signs of facelift surgery have faded and there are no restrictions on physical activities. Most patients feel comfortable attending social events, work conferences, and so on. For important events, such as weddings or class reunions, we recommend planning your surgery 2 or more months before the date of the event.
Please note
Recovery times vary between individuals. Mr Ahmad and the team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions tailored to your specific procedure.

How does a neck lift work?
A neck lift works by tightening the underlying neck muscles, repositioning the deeper tissues and removing or smoothing excess skin. In some cases, liposuction is used to reduce fullness under the chin. By addressing both the supportive structures and the surface layers, the procedure restores a firmer, more defined neck and jawline.
How long does a neck lift last?
Neck lift results are long-lasting, with many patients maintaining improved definition for 10 to 15 years. While the procedure cannot stop the natural ageing process, it significantly rejuvenates the underlying structures of the neck.
How is a neck lift done?
A neck lift is usually performed under general anaesthetic. Discreet incisions are made to access the deeper tissues, where the platysma muscle and supporting structures are tightened to improve contour. Excess skin is then removed, and dissolvable stitches are used to secure the skin in its new position.
Is a neck lift worth it?
For individuals with sagging skin, prominent neck bands, a poorly defined jawline or excess fullness under the chin, a neck lift can offer substantial and long-lasting improvement. The procedure can significantly enhance facial balance, restore a more youthful profile and improve confidence. Whether it is the right option depends on your goals, anatomy and expectations, which will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
What does a neck lift do?
A neck lift improves visible signs of ageing in the neck by tightening loose or separated muscles, lifting and repositioning sagging tissues, removing excess skin and refining the jawline. It reduces the appearance of a double chin, smooths vertical banding and improves overall contour, creating a firmer, more youthful and harmonious appearance.
How soon after surgery can I attend a special event or go on holiday?
We generally recommend allowing at least six weeks between your procedure and any important event, such as a wedding, special celebration, or planned holiday. This gives your body sufficient time to heal and allows swelling or bruising to settle, so you can feel confident and comfortable.
