Nikki the Practice Manager is great, a thoroughly professional and welcoming Clinic. I would recommend them to anyone.

The nose is the most central feature on our face and has a significant effect on our overall appearance. Rhinoplasty surgery, also known as nose reshaping or a “nose job”, refines the nasal structure by adjusting the bridge, reshaping the tip and correcting asymmetry.
If you are concerned about issues such as a prominent nasal hump, a bulbous or drooping tip or breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum, rhinoplasty may be an appropriate option. At Cambridge Clear Beauty, Mr Ahmad uses his aesthetic judgement and surgical technique to perform rhinoplasty surgery that is tailored to your specific concerns and goals.

Types of rhinoplasty surgery
Rhinoplasty encompasses different surgical approaches depending on whether your concerns are purely cosmetic, functional or both.
Cosmetic rhinoplasty
Cosmetic rhinoplasty focuses exclusively on reshaping the external appearance of the nose to improve aesthetics and facial harmony. It addresses concerns such as nasal size, width, profile, tip shape, nostril size, bumps or irregularities on the bridge and overall proportion relative to other facial features.
Septorhinoplasty
Septorhinoplasty combines cosmetic nose reshaping with septoplasty, correcting both aesthetic concerns and a deviated septum in a single procedure. A deviated septum is the misalignment of the internal wall dividing the nasal passages, which can cause breathing difficulties, chronic congestion and sleep disturbances.
Septoplasty
Septoplasty is a purely functional procedure that corrects a deviated septum to improve nasal airflow and breathing without changing the external appearance of the nose. The surgery straightens the internal nasal partition, removes obstructive bone or cartilage and opens blocked nasal passages. This surgery is appropriate when breathing difficulties are the sole concern and no cosmetic changes are desired.
What are the benefits of
rhinoplasty surgery?
Rhinoplasty surgery offers several functional and cosmetic benefits, which include:
- Refining nose size and proportions to create better facial balance
- Correcting a dorsal hump, bump or irregularity on the nasal bridge
- Reshaping the nasal tip to improve definition and projection
- Straightening a crooked or asymmetric nose
- Improving breathing by correcting a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse
- Reducing nostril width or refining nostril shape
- Creating a more defined nasal profile that complements your facial features
- Delivering permanent, natural-looking results that enhance confidence
Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty surgery?
You may be a suitable candidate for rhinoplasty surgery if you are unhappy with the size, shape or proportions of your nose, experience breathing difficulties due to structural nasal issues or have concerns about nasal asymmetry, bumps on the bridge or tip definition.
Ideal candidates are in good general health, do not smoke (or are willing to stop smoking before and after surgery), have completed facial growth (typically age 16-18 for females, 17-19 for males) and have realistic expectations about the improvements rhinoplasty can achieve.
A detailed consultation with Mr Ahmad will determine whether rhinoplasty, septorhinoplasty or septoplasty is appropriate for your specific concerns and goals.

What to expect during rhinoplasty surgery?
Consultation
During your consultation with Mr Ahmad, he will take the time to understand your concerns, assess your nasal structure and breathing function and discuss the improvements you would like to achieve. This personalised approach ensures he creates a treatment plan tailored to your anatomy and goals.
A second complimentary consultation is offered once you have had time to reflect on the information provided. This follow-up appointment gives you the opportunity to ask any additional questions and review additional information before deciding whether to proceed.
Surgery
Before your surgery, you will attend pre-admission clinic appointments to ensure you are fully prepared for surgery. All rhinoplasty procedures are performed personally by Mr Ahmad, a specialist plastic surgeon with extensive experience.
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually carried out under general anaesthetic and typically takes around 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the reshaping required and whether functional correction is included. The procedure may take longer when addressing both cosmetic and breathing concerns simultaneously.
During the procedure, discreet incisions are made either inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty).
The choice of approach depends on the extent of reshaping needed. Mr Ahmad then carefully reshapes the nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissue to refine the size, profile, tip or symmetry as planned. If septorhinoplasty is being performed, the deviated septum is straightened, and any obstructive tissue is removed to improve airflow.
Once the reshaping is complete, the incisions are closed with fine, dissolvable stitches and a protective splint is placed on the outside of the nose to support the new structure during initial healing. Internal nasal splints may also be placed if septoplasty was performed.
Recovery
Recovery from rhinoplasty surgery generally takes around 2 to 3 weeks. In the early stages, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising around the eyes and nose, nasal congestion and a feeling of pressure or tightness. These effects steadily improve over the first couple of weeks as the tissues settle.
The external splint is typically removed after one week, though swelling will still be present. Most visible bruising resolves within 10 to 14 days. Internal swelling takes longer to subside, settling over 3 to 6 months, with final refinement continuing for up to 12 to 18 months.
Throughout your recovery, you will attend scheduled follow-up appointments, so your progress can be monitored closely. A member of the team will also contact you after the procedure to provide guidance, answer questions and ensure you feel supported at every stage.
Support continues until healing is complete and you are satisfied with your outcome. You will be advised to avoid strenuous activity, blowing your nose and activities that could risk impact to the nose during the critical early healing period.
Results
Most patients notice immediate changes to their nasal shape once the splint is removed at the one-week mark, although swelling can temporarily obscure the finer details of the final outcome. Over the following weeks and months, this swelling gradually subsides, revealing a more refined nasal contour.
By 3 to 6 months, most of the swelling would have resolved, and the nose will appear much closer to its final shape. The nasal tip, which retains swelling the longest, continues to refine over 12 to 18 months as the skin contracts and fully adapts to the new underlying structure.
The overall result is a nose that appears natural, balanced and proportionate to your facial features. If septorhinoplasty was performed, breathing function is significantly improved, with patients often reporting dramatic relief from chronic congestion and airflow obstruction.
Risks and potential complications of rhinoplasty surgery
Whilst rhinoplasty surgery is generally safe when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, all surgical procedures carry some degree of risk. Potential risks and complications may include:
- Bruising and swelling, particularly around the eyes and nose
- Infection
- Scarring
- Bleeding or haematoma
- Breathing difficulties
- Numbness or changes in skin sensation on the nose or upper lip
- Asymmetry or irregularities in contour as tissues heal
- Septal perforation (a small hole in the nasal septum), which is rare
- Need for revision surgery if the outcome does not meet expectations
- Prolonged swelling, particularly in the nasal tip, which can take 12-18 months to fully resolve
Rhinoplasty Recovery Timeline
Recovery following rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty is gradual, with improvement becoming more noticeable as swelling subsides over time.
First Week
Rest & Recovery
Get plenty of rest during the first few days. A splint is typically worn to support the nose, with a follow-up appointment scheduled during the week for review and removal. Swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose usually peak and begin to settle by the end of the week. Most patients no longer require prescription pain medication after the first few days.
Week 2
Initial Healing
Expect some residual swelling and mild bruising, although this is often improving. You may notice a feeling of congestion, numbness, or tightness around the nose. By the end of the second week, many patients feel comfortable returning to normal day-to-day activities and social settings.
Weeks 3 to 4
Return to Activities
Most patients can return to non-strenuous work and routines. While subtle swelling may still be present, it is usually less noticeable and can often be concealed. As healing progresses, the shape of the nose becomes more defined. Light exercise can typically be resumed gradually, avoiding any risk of impact to the nose.
30 Days and Beyond
Full Recovery
By this stage, much of the visible swelling has settled, and there are fewer restrictions on daily activities. The nose will continue to refine over the coming months, with final results developing gradually. Most patients feel comfortable attending social events and important occasions, although for significant events, it is advisable to allow several months for optimal healing.
Please note
Recovery times vary between individuals. Mr Ahmad and the team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions tailored to your specific procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does rhinoplasty take to heal?
The initial recovery period lasts 2 to 3 weeks. During this time, bruising gradually fades, and the external splint is removed, allowing most patients to return to work and light daily activities. The full healing process takes 12 to 18 months, as internal swelling takes time to resolve and the nasal tissue gradually settles into its final shape.
How does rhinoplasty surgery work?
During rhinoplasty surgery, the nose is reshaped through the alteration of underlying bone, cartilage and soft tissue through incisions placed either inside the nostrils or across the columella. The surgeon removes, repositions or adds structure to refine the nasal size, shape, profile or tip according to the surgical plan. Once the reshaping is complete, the incisions are closed, and a splint is applied to protect the new structure during initial healing.
Is a rhinoplasty painful?
Most patients describe rhinoplasty as uncomfortable rather than painful, with sensations of pressure, congestion and tightness being more prominent than actual pain. Any discomfort is well-managed with prescribed pain medication during the first few days. The majority of patients report that recovery is more tolerable than anticipated, with nasal stuffiness being more bothersome than pain.
How long does a rhinoplasty take?
Rhinoplasty typically takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. More extensive procedures addressing multiple concerns may take longer. The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic with an overnight hospital stay.
How long does rhinoplasty last?
Rhinoplasty delivers permanent structural changes that last a lifetime. Once complete healing occurs (12 to 18 months), the results are considered permanent. While the nose will continue to age naturally over time, the overall shape and refinement achieved through surgery generally remain stable. Most patients do not require further procedures.
Is rhinoplasty permanent?
Yes, rhinoplasty creates permanent changes to the nasal structure. The bone and cartilage reshaping performed during surgery does not reverse over time. Whilst the nose continues to age naturally and the skin may lose some elasticity, the fundamental improvements to shape and proportion achieved through surgery remain.
Is septorhinoplasty a major surgery?
Yes, septorhinoplasty is considered a major surgery as it involves reshaping nasal bones and cartilage, correcting the internal septum and requires general anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes 2 to 4 hours and requires an overnight hospital stay. Recovery takes several weeks, with healing continuing for 12 to 18 months.
How long does septorhinoplasty take?
Septorhinoplasty typically takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the extent of cosmetic reshaping and functional correction required. Addressing both aesthetic concerns and a deviated septum requires more time than cosmetic rhinoplasty alone, as the surgeon must address both the external nasal structure and the internal septal alignment.
