Treatments Abroad – We’ve all been there – A headache lasts for more than 2 hours, and we start googling our symptoms. We stumble across a website or forum. And then a group about headaches on Facebook. Inside this group, are thousands of people, all talking about headaches and what to do in order to get rid of them! These people are full of fabulous advice and tips! But if all 40,000 people had just gone to the doctor, they could have got a tablet from their GP that would have been not only effective, but most importantly, risk-free.
Now, this might seem harmless when it is said about a headache, but what about breast implants, or tummy tucks? It might be hard to believe, but some thousands of people a year are picking their surgeon based off a Facebook profile alone.
It is also important to realise that these Facebook groups are often censored. Bad reviews never get through, neither do critiques, payment issues, or ‘botch-jobs’ – this is potentially the most dangerous part about these groups.
We strongly advise against treatments abroad and urge anybody looking for advice to reach out to us if they have questions. Always research your surgeon and clinic on Google. We recommend looking on Google for reviews, forum posts and RealSelf. Another case has only just come out this week with an unfortunate event that took place in Turkey, so please always make sure to research prior to undertaking any surgery or even making such a decision.Â
Reliable and Quality clinics, will always offer a consultancy and provide previous examples of their work and you can always obviously ask your social circle and friends.
Where do you look for authentic reviews when considering surgery? We’d love to know how you get your information or whether you simply go with a recommendation?
