Sagging Neck Skin
Tighten and define the neck area with neck rejuvenation treatments.

I can highly recommend both him and his clinic team. My experience from start to finish was professional friendly and not at any point did a worry or feel nervous.
Thank you

Mr Ahmad has a real artistic eye, and that made all the difference. He didn’t just focus on changing my nose, but on how it would harmonise with the rest of my features. The result is a subtle, cute nose that genuinely suits my face.
I also really appreciated how straightforward and manageable the aftercare was—it made the whole process feel much less overwhelming. Overall, I feel more confident, more comfortable in myself, and I can finally breathe properly. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.

I have lost two close relatives to malignant melanoma. I was referred on by my GP for ‘ urgent skin cancer assessment’ of a suspicious mark on my face. NHS. It was a two week wait for a photo then a predicted 3 week wait for a result sent to me by text. With fair Scots skin and family history, l struggled with what would be a 5 week wait just for a diagnosis.
I made an appointment at the clinic. I got an appointment and a result within days. Thankfully negative. The result was told to me by a person, not the text message the NHS promised. I also got skin care advice and a prescription for previously undetected sun damage which l greatly appreciate. I was treated with utmost kindness and courtesy. I am so grateful that l heard your radio advert offering this service.

Preparation for the surgery could have been more thorough. I was unaware of extent of recovery timeline and importantly, what this could look like. I had swelling for well over two years and even now the tip is still refining. I understand now how complex a surgery this is.
In hindsight I wish Mr Ahmad, like the majority of other surgeons as I understand, had provided an image or drawing of what he had in mind prior to the surgery.
The early recovery was hard, I had a lot of swelling, bruising, and looked completely unrecognisable. This was somewhat expected though did seem at the more severe end of the scale. The surgery took 4.5 hours.
Following the surgery I was left with an asymmetrical residual hump, depression through centre of nose, retracted nostrils and a large scar on one nostril through error of Mr Ahmad as I understand, though he was never forthcoming in explaining reasoning. I felt it had a ‘done’ look and could have been more natural. After the surgery, as I was not entirely happy with the result given the above, and ironically at this stage and not before, Mr Ahmad suggested therapy or that I may have body dysmorphia, to correct the relationship with my nose. Therapy was not offered prior to the surgery of course. I felt very much gaslit and on meeting with other practitioners concerns were understood and addressed.
Another insensitive moment came when I mentioned perhaps spending too much time on Instagram, where content served to me is focused on appearance. Mr Ahmad replied they liked Instagram, alluding to it’s how they make their money.
Mr Ahmad offered to correct the scar on my nostril, which improved it somewhat though not entirely it is still visible. Ironically during the procedure Mr Ahmad nearly nipped my lip with the scissors, much to the nurse’s surprise. Not the comforting attention to detail of a surgeon.

He has done an amazing job on two vivid scars I had on my face.
Nikki the Practice Manager is great, a thoroughly professional and welcoming Clinic. I would recommend them to anyone.

I've had three deep face peels, scar revision on some deep acne scars and skin consultations with him and his staff and my skin now looks the best it has for years after suffering from sun damaged, acne prone skin for a long time I never imagined my skin could look so good.
I've been told the best products to use for my skin type etc.
Highly recommend Mr Ahmad and Cambridge Clear Beauty for all your skin issues and him and all of his staff are highly professional, friendly people who always make you feel welcome.

From the very beginning, Mr Ahmad took the time to listen carefully and make detailed notes, even producing incredibly precise drawings to capture what we discussed. His insights into what would suit my face best were invaluable, and it’s clear that his experience and knowledge guided the outcome.
The results have been outstanding. My nose has healed beautifully, with a natural appearance that feels completely in harmony with my features. Most importantly, I can now breathe freely through both nostrils, which has made a huge difference to my day-to-day life—improving sleep, exercise, and overall wellbeing.
What impressed me further was that Mr Ahmad was able to achieve this through a closed approach, which I understand is particularly challenging, but a testament to his years of expertise and recognition in the field.
Equally, the team around him were fantastic throughout the process. I always felt reassured, supported, and in safe hands at every stage of my treatment.
I am absolutely delighted with the outcome and would wholeheartedly recommend Mr Ahmad. His skill, professionalism, and care have been exceptional.

I did have extensive bruising that was explained by Mr Ahmad would happen. My top eyelids healed fairly quickly but the bottom eyebags are more difficult. Mr Ahmad and Nikki have always answered my questions and have always seen me regularly or when iv had a worry and eased my concerns.
Overall, my eyes are healing now, and after 3 months are doing well and looking much better. Mr Ahmad told me it could take up to a year for my healing process to end.
As it is an invasive surgery I can understand why, but thankfully its getting there and I'm pleased with how my results are starting to look.
I trust Mr Ahmad 100% as he has always been very professional and kind.

If you’ve noticed loose, crepey skin on your neck, visible vertical bands or a loss of definition between your jaw and neck, you’re likely experiencing saggy neck skin, also known as “turkey neck”. This happens when the skin loses elasticity, the underlying platysma muscle weakens and separates, and fat deposits shift or accumulate in the neck area.
At Cambridge Clear Beauty, we can help lift and tighten sagging neck skin with personalised neck rejuvenation treatments tailored to your specific concerns.
What is Sagging Neck Skin?
Sagging neck skin, also called loose neck skin, occurs when the skin and underlying tissues in the neck lose their firmness and elasticity, causing them to droop or hang loosely. Visually, this appears as vertical bands running down the neck (caused by separation of the platysma muscle), horizontal creases or lines, crepey or wrinkled texture and a loss of the smooth, defined angle between the jaw and neck.
In mild cases, the neck may look less taut than it once did. In more advanced cases, the skin creates pronounced folds, pouches of loose tissue or what’s commonly called “turkey neck”, where excess skin hangs beneath the chin and jawline.
What Causes Sagging Neck Skin?
Sagging neck skin results from a combination of natural ageing processes, muscle weakening, gravitational forces and lifestyle factors that gradually break down the skin’s structure and support.
Natural Ageing and Collagen Breakdown
As we age, the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and elastic, gradually declines. The neck skin is particularly thin and delicate compared to facial skin, making it more vulnerable to this loss of structural support. As collagen depletes, the skin becomes looser and thinner.
Platysma Muscle Weakening
The platysma is a thin, sheet-like muscle that runs vertically down the neck from the jaw to the collarbone. With age, this muscle weakens and can no longer provide the underlying support needed to keep neck skin taut, contributing significantly to sagging and the appearance of prominent neck bands.
Weight Fluctuations
Significant weight gain stretches the neck skin, whilst rapid weight loss can leave behind loose, excess skin that lacks the elasticity to contract back into place. Repeated cycles of weight gain and loss are particularly damaging, as they stretch and relax the skin multiple times, progressively weakening its ability to maintain firmness.
Sun Damage and Lifestyle Factors
Chronic UV exposure accelerates collagen breakdown through photoageing, worsening skin laxity and crepey texture. Smoking, dehydration and poor nutrition can also impair collagen production and overall skin quality.
Genetics and Skin Quality
Genetic factors determine natural skin thickness, collagen density and how quickly ageing changes occur. Some people inherit thinner, more delicate neck skin that loses firmness earlier, whilst others have thicker, more resilient skin that maintains tone longer.
Posture and Repetitive Neck Movements
Constantly looking down at phones, tablets, or computers can cause repetitive neck skin folding, which, over time, can contribute to horizontal creases and accelerated sagging. Poor posture, with the neck bent forward, places additional strain on the skin and underlying structures.
Whilst not a primary cause, these modern habits can worsen the effects of natural ageing, particularly when combined with already declining collagen and muscle support.
Should I Consider Treatment for Sagging Neck Skin?
The decision to treat sagging neck skin is a matter of personal preference. It depends on how noticeable the changes feel to you, how they affect your confidence and what outcome you hope to achieve.
Understanding What’s Causing Your Neck Sagging
Not all sagging neck skin looks the same or has the same cause. Some people primarily have loose, crepey skin with minimal muscle banding. Others have prominent vertical bands with relatively good skin quality, while some have excess fat beneath the chin and loose skin. Understanding what’s actually causing your neck to sag determines which treatment will be effective.
Setting Realistic Expectations
Treatment can significantly improve the appearance of your neck, but won’t restore the exact neck contour you had in your twenties or thirties. The goal is noticeable tightening and definition that looks natural and proportionate to your face. The amount of improvement possible depends on skin thickness, the degree of muscle separation, whether excess fat is present and your bone structure.
When it Disrupts Facial Harmony
The neck plays a crucial role in overall facial balance and proportion. Even if your facial features remain well-defined, a sagging neck can create a visual disconnect, making the lower third of your face appear heavier or older than the rest.
Treatment Options for Sagging Neck Skin at Cambridge Clear Beauty
Non-Surgical Treatments
Non-surgical options have limited effectiveness for sagging neck skin. The neck’s thinner skin and underlying muscle involvement make it particularly resistant to non-invasive tightening. These treatments may offer modest improvement for very early changes, but cannot address established sagging, muscle banding or excess skin.
FaceTite
FaceTite is a minimally invasive radiofrequency treatment that can be applied to the neck to stimulate collagen contraction and mild skin tightening. This treatment may provide subtle improvement for early-stage neck laxity where the skin has just begun to lose firmness.
Thread Lift
A thread lift involves placing dissolvable threads beneath the skin of the neck to provide subtle lifting. This treatment is best suited to mild laxity and provides temporary, modest lifting rather than structural correction.
Profhilo
Profhilo is a bio-remodelling injectable that improves skin hydration, quality and texture. It enhances the appearance of neck skin but does not provide lifting or tightening. It is most effective as a complementary treatment to support skin health rather than as a primary solution for sagging.
Surgical Treatments
Surgery is the only effective solution for established neck sagging, particularly when vertical banding, significant loose skin or muscle separation is present.
Neck Lift
The most direct and effective treatment for sagging neck skin. Addresses loose skin by removing excess tissue, tightens the platysma muscle to eliminate vertical banding and creates a smoother and more defined contour from the jawline to the collarbone.
Full Facelift
When neck sagging occurs alongside jowls, lower face descent or mid-face changes, addressing everything together delivers the most harmonious result.
Liposuction
When excess fat beneath the chin contributes to a heavy or full neck appearance alongside skin sagging, targeted liposuction may be performed during neck lift surgery to remove fat deposits and refine the contour.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a turkey neck?
Turkey neck is a colloquial term for sagging neck skin that creates loose, hanging folds beneath the chin and along the front of the neck, resembling a turkey’s wattle. It occurs when the platysma muscle weakens and separates into visible vertical bands, the skin loses elasticity, and excess tissue accumulates.
At what age does a turkey neck start?
Most people begin noticing early signs of turkey neck in their late forties to fifties, though some may see changes earlier or later. The timeline depends heavily on genetics, skin quality, sun exposure, weight fluctuations and lifestyle factors. Those with naturally thinner skin or a family history of early neck sagging may develop turkey neck in their late thirties or early forties.
What does a turkey neck look like?
Turkey neck appears as loose, sagging skin beneath the chin and along the front of the neck, often with prominent vertical bands running from jaw to collarbone. The neck loses its smooth, defined contour and instead develops folds, crepey texture or pouches of excess tissue.
How can I tighten the skin on my neck?
This largely depends on the degree of sagging. Mild laxity may respond to non-surgical treatments like FaceTite or Profhilo, though results are modest and temporary. Established sagging with prominent banding or significant excess skin requires a surgical neck lift to remove loose tissue and tighten the underlying platysma muscle.
At what age does your neck start sagging?
Collagen and elastin begin declining in the late twenties to early thirties, but visible neck sagging typically doesn’t appear until the forties or fifties, when the platysma muscle weakens, and skin laxity becomes more pronounced. Some people notice changes earlier due to genetics, significant weight loss or chronic sun exposure, whilst others maintain neck firmness well into their sixties.
What is the best option for a saggy neck?
A surgical neck lift is the most effective treatment for a saggy neck, particularly when vertical banding, excess skin or platysma muscle separation is present. The procedure removes loose tissue, tightens the separated muscle and creates a smooth, defined contour that non-surgical treatments cannot achieve.
Can anything be done for a turkey neck?
Yes, a turkey neck can be effectively corrected through a surgical neck lift, which removes excess skin, tightens the separated platysma muscle and eliminates vertical banding. This procedure restores a smooth, youthful neck contour with results lasting 10+ years.
