I have lost two close relatives to malignant melanoma. I was referred on by my GP for ‘ urgent skin cancer assessment’ of a suspicious mark on my face. NHS. It was a two week wait for a photo then a predicted 3 week wait for a result sent to me by text. With fair Scots skin and family history, l struggled with what would be a 5 week wait just for a diagnosis.
I made an appointment at the clinic. I got an appointment and a result within days. Thankfully negative. The result was told to me by a person, not the text message the NHS promised. I also got skin care advice and a prescription for previously undetected sun damage which l greatly appreciate. I was treated with utmost kindness and courtesy. I am so grateful that l heard your radio advert offering this service.
Preparation for the surgery could have been more thorough. I was unaware of extent of recovery timeline and importantly, what this could look like. I had swelling for well over two years and even now the tip is still refining. I understand now how complex a surgery this is.
In hindsight I wish Mr Ahmad, like the majority of other surgeons as I understand, had provided an image or drawing of what he had in mind prior to the surgery.
The early recovery was hard, I had a lot of swelling, bruising, and looked completely unrecognisable. This was somewhat expected though did seem at the more severe end of the scale. The surgery took 4.5 hours.
Following the surgery I was left with an asymmetrical residual hump, depression through centre of nose, retracted nostrils and a large scar on one nostril through error of Mr Ahmad as I understand, though he was never forthcoming in explaining reasoning. I felt it had a ‘done’ look and could have been more natural. After the surgery, as I was not entirely happy with the result given the above, and ironically at this stage and not before, Mr Ahmad suggested therapy or that I may have body dysmorphia, to correct the relationship with my nose. Therapy was not offered prior to the surgery of course. I felt very much gaslit and on meeting with other practitioners concerns were understood and addressed.
Another insensitive moment came when I mentioned perhaps spending too much time on Instagram, where content served to me is focused on appearance. Mr Ahmad replied they liked Instagram, alluding to it’s how they make their money.
Mr Ahmad offered to correct the scar on my nostril, which improved it somewhat though not entirely it is still visible. Ironically during the procedure Mr Ahmad nearly nipped my lip with the scissors, much to the nurse’s surprise. Not the comforting attention to detail of a surgeon.
He has done an amazing job on two vivid scars I had on my face.

I did have extensive bruising that was explained by Mr Ahmad would happen. My top eyelids healed fairly quickly but the bottom eyebags are more difficult. Mr Ahmad and Nikki have always answered my questions and have always seen me regularly or when iv had a worry and eased my concerns.
Overall, my eyes are healing now, and after 3 months are doing well and looking much better. Mr Ahmad told me it could take up to a year for my healing process to end.
As it is an invasive surgery I can understand why, but thankfully its getting there and I'm pleased with how my results are starting to look.

What is a Breast Augmentation?
During a breast augmentation procedure, Mr Tariq Ahmad will make an incision along the natural crease underneath the breast, which is called the inframammary fold, or around the nipple. Then an implant pocket is made either above or below the chest muscle and the implant is inserted.
Modern implants are developed using the latest technology and have specially coated shell which means there is far less chance of the implant rupturing and that the risk of capsular contracture is reduced.

Breast Augmentation Aftercare
- You will need to sleep on your back for the first 2 weeks following surgery.
- You should sleep propped up with pillows to reduce swelling of the breasts.
- Should you require pain relief, Paracetamol is recommended. Please avoid taking Aspirin based medications as they may cause bleeding.
- It is important that you complete the course of antibiotics if you have been prescribed them.
- Avoid any activity that puts stress on the wounds, including raising your arms above the head and lifting heavy items (i.e. shopping, children) for 6 weeks.
- All dressings should be kept intact and dry until your first follow-up review appointment. Advice will be given at this appointment regarding dressings and care of the scars.
- You will be fitted with a sports bra, which should be worn day and night for 4 — 6 weeks. Take if off for washing only. This will be provided by the hospital.
- It is important that a supportive bra is worn and not a bra with underwires. Your surgeon will advise you as to when you can change to a different style of bra.
- Avoid hot baths and showers for 2 weeks following surgery. A shallow, tepid bath is an alternative.
- Driving is not advised for 2 weeks following surgery.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, lifting or swimming for 6 weeks after surgery.
- Please refrain from smoking as this prevents good wound healing.
- Depending on your job, you should be able to return to work within 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery.
- Swelling in the breasts is expected and normal. This may take up to 6 weeks to settle.
- Your breasts will probably be sensitive to direct stimulation for up to 3 weeks. Breast contact is fine once they are no longer sore, usually 3 — 4 weeks after the surgery.
Should you experience undue pain, redness, hardening, a raised temperature or feel unwell, please contact the hospital where you had your procedure, or your surgeon directly if requested to do so by your Consultant.
