It is a question we are often asked (naturally) prior to such a a treatment by our patients. Glycolic Acid Peel is made of sugar cane and is a great start to a deep cleansing facial that not only improves the functioning of the skin, But the appearance too.The 40% Glycolic Acid Peel solution used is penetrated through the epidermis. Despite the term “Acid Peel” there is no burning and no peeling, therefore no downtime. A peel is effectively an acidic product placed on the skin to increase epidermal cell proliferation and remove stratum corneum and plugs within pores. It essentially refers to the process of putting acid on the skin to exfoliate (acid that hasn’t been mixed or diluted with other skincare ingredients). It is considered the the “gold standard” in chemical peel formulations and is one of the most popular and used treatments for many professional skin therapists due to iits proven ability to transform the health and appearance of a multitude of skin types.
There are many benefits to such peels as they are known to stimulate natural collagen production, along with diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Blemishes in the skin are usually either pink/red or brown/black. The latter are pigmented blemishes or moles. The redder ones may be composed of blood vessels in or under the skin. Most skin blemishes of this nature are harmless, but one should seek advice if they change, either in colour, size, or shape; also if they become symptomatic, for example if they start to itch.
Some skin blemishes can be examined by dermatoscopy, looking at the skin close up with a special instrument and thereby additional information obtained in relation to the nature of the blemish.
Benign moles or other blemishes can be treated in a number of ways such as freezing, laser, or surgery. Surgery for moles is usually of two types, tangential shave with gentle cautery of the ‘root’, or by formally excising the moles or cutting them out with stitches. Tangential shave excision often results in the most inconspicuous blemish after treatment, sometimes it is even difficult to discern where the original lesion was. Not all moles are suitable for this category of treatment.
The other technique of formal excision, or cutting out the mole, will result in a scar and you would then need stitches; then it is important to place the scar in the best possible orientation to maximise the chances of the most elegant and finest scar possible. These techniques need an informed eye and experienced hand; Mr Ahmad has over 21 years of experience in this category of surgery; he will advise on the best option, individualised for you.
