If we were asked for a “somewhat subjective”  rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10 we would go with…10/10: Sunshine and absolutely gorgeous! Yes, Cambridge, summer might have taken a bit longer to come round this year but we can defiantly say, it is officially here today! Most of us are already trying to organise ourselves, head to the local supermarket as fast as possible and prepare luscious BBQ’s, dig out our bikinis and book our next holiday to Greece for some well-deserved beach-time. oh, did we mention the kids are off-school too 😍

However, as we operate in the health, beauty and wellness industry we are also aware that summer is usually(and naturally)  accompanied by excessive sun exposure, sweet treats  and drinks, hay fever and other health woes – so it’s just as important to look after ourselves in the warmer weather as it is throughout the winter or spring periods.

5 Healthy tips for summer

So let’s have a look at some little advice from Dr Ahmad as well as 5 Healthy tips for summer to keep yourself healthy, fit and confident:

Pick one outdoor activity (perhaps not in today’s’ heat although swimming is always a good idea)– going on a hike, taking a nature walk, playing games such as tag with your kids, cycling, roller-blading — to avoid that feeling of being caged in a gym staring at a screen! It is also a great way for the family to not only play together but also get fit together.

Regular and consistent physical exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle no matter the season and the warm summer weather can make it easy to exercise outdoors and get the whole family involved. Just be sure to take some precautions so you don’t get overheated in the hot weather which leads us to our second tip.

Drinking water is extremely important as it not only enables your body to rehydrate but also helps you think and function better overall. Make sure you drink at least 8-10 glasses of water and ensure your body is well hydrated at all times in this scorching heat. Do not drink extremely chilled water as it will only wreak havoc on your health. You will obviously be more thirsty than usual but avoid resorting to energy or cold drinks for a change of taste and make sure you are aware of the calories in your smoothies. Whenever you feel like quenching your thirst, prefer drinking a glass of water, orange juice or melon juice.

This is indeed the most dangerous period in terms of skin cancer and other conditions die to the extreme heat and exposure to it for longer than normally. Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to UV rays from the sun and man-made sources like tanning booths so it is crucial you protect your skin at all times – especially when going out – during the long, summer days. As a basic rule of thumb always:

a. Cover up or Seek shade

b. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen

c. Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps

Make sure whatever you eat or drink on is clean and hygienic as your body is already fighting high temperatures and is weaker, hence easily making it more susceptible to bugs and infections. You are prone to get bacterial infections from the utensils in restaurants and even at home so ensure they are clean and always wash your hands before eating as well as your fruit and vegetable. Be proactive rather than reactive in these cases as reactive could mean losing a day or two of this gorgeous sun due to ill health and the effect of food poisoning.

It is also very common for food to go off in high temperatures so always make sure to check prior to serving or cooking even if the USE BY date says otherwise.

Which naturally leads us to our last tip which is to always make sure you eat healthy and fresh, by consuming seasonal foods as they are able to provide you with unique nutrients and health benefits. Always try to find and pick freshly harvested foods and load up on melon, mangoes, plums, tomatoes, berries, watermelon, oranges, celery, et al. Load up on more body cooling foods and more hydrating foods that will help your keep going in this heat.

We hope the above help quench today’s thirst and enjoy the gorgeous sun, in a healthy way but do feel free to email or call us if you have any queries or questions.

If you’re looking into what we consider to be more serious surgery like a breast augmentation (using a general anaesthetic versus a local) then here are some tips for you when it comes to recovering from the procedure. Every person is different and their body will react in different ways, however there are a number of predictable recovery stages that we can plan for.

These generally last for about three months. Immediately after the procedure, there is likely to be some pain, swelling and bruising. The pain should disappear quickly, but the swelling may take a couple of weeks to fully go down. One week off work would be advisable, as well as six weeks off from sport – especially anything high impact. After about three months 90% of the recovery process should be done.

  1. REST: Are you able to commit to the six week period of no-sport? Have you spoken to your work about time-off?

  1. PLANNING: Have you planned the first week or two after your procedure? Remember to book some time off work to rest and recover. We advise a week minimum, in order to support your recovery.

  1. PAIN MANAGEMENT: Naturally, there will be discomfort, pain and soreness after this procedure. It’s normal, but a little frustrating if you haven’t planned properly for it. Your surgeon can give you painkillers if needed, but if you want to take any more prescription-only medicine, you need to speak to your doctor first

  1. SCHEDULE POST-OP CHECK UPS IN GOOD TIME: It is vital to ensure that your body is healing how it should. Ensure that you speak with your surgeon about fitting this into your schedule.

  1. HAVE SOME HELP: If you’re running the household, a practical tip is to have some help from a friend or partner with basic chores that might put a strain on your body.

These would be our top 5 tips for recovery after breast augmentation but please do let us know if there are any alternatives that you have used or work for you.

If you’re experiencing the onset of ageing, or want to restore youthful vigour to your face – or just want to make the most of what you’ve got – you may be confused about the range of treatments on offer. With that in mind, here’s a brief guide to two of the most popular treatments on the market – Botox and dermal fillers.

What are Botox and fillers?

Botox is a brand name for Botulinum Toxin – a natural protein that is deployed to temporarily relax muscles in the face that are the cause of lines and wrinkles. It’s been proven to be the safest and most tested product of its kind.

Dermal fillers are a supplement of Hyaluronic Acid, a natural additive that the body routinely produces to self-regulate the skin and keep it moisturised. As we get older, our natural supplies diminish – hence the need to ‘top up’ the facial area with HA.

What does the treatment involve?

Both procedures consist of a consultation session, where clients express their desired results, followed by a course of injections. There may be slight bruising and swelling immediately afterwards, but can be easily hidden with make-up.

How long do the results last?

Botox targets the lines in a client’s face caused by facial expressions, and the duration of results lasts from three to six months, depending on various factors. Dermal fillers has less of a job to do and is more of a gradual treatment – meaning the results last for up to 18 months – and in some cases, as long as two years.

Who would each treatment suit?

If you want to get rid of facial lines and wrinkles on a budget, Botox is the obvious choice, as it targets problem areas with fast results at a lower cost. If you’re looking to eliminate lines and wrinkles while also replenishing the volume to your face over a longer period of time, dermal fillers are the best bet.

Whatever treatment you choose, Cambridge Clear Beauty has the solution. For more information, get in touch with us at your earliest convenience and we’ll be able to talk you through both processes in further detail.

It’s one of the first parts of our body to betray the signs of ageing, but it’s also the one of the hardest spots to exercise: the neck and chin area. Sure, you can spend hours gurning away and twisting your head into all sorts of positions in an attempt to tone the neck muscles and get rid of that double chin, but more often than not it makes the matter worse.

What’s more, sagging neck muscles really age you by pulling the rest of the face down, making people look older than they really are. And due to the inability to get rid of the fat naturally, the only thing you can do with a double chin or a chook neck is to hope that turtle-necks never go out of fashion. That is, until now.

Freeze away that double chin – safely and effectively

There are only two neck-fat treatments that have been approved by America’s Food and Drug Administration. One of them involves five monthly treatments, consisting of as many as 50 injections in the chin area per session.

The other is CoolSculpting, a revolutionary treatment that can eliminate the body fat that exercise and dieting can’t.

How does CoolSculpting work on the neck?

Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting is not a quick-fix fat reduction treatment: it’s the procedure that hones in on areas of stubborn fat that are nigh-on impossible to get rid of.

Instead of sucking fat out (only for it to return, if the client isn’t adhering to a healthy diet and exercise regime, it zones in on problem areas with incredible precision, destroys the fat cells by freezing them, and then leaves it up to your natural metabolic functions to flush them out safely and effectively.

And once gone, problematic fat cells don’t come back. CoolSculpting has been around for a while, but it’s only recently that the latest upgrade – the CoolMini – has made it possible to treat smaller areas like the neck and double chin.

OK so you’ve been to the gym regularly, you’re following the diet plan down to the last calorie but you still can’t shift that last bit of fat to really make the most of that LBD. It might be your armpits, your kneck or your knees but no matter what you do it just can’t be shifted so maybe it’s time to try the new CoolMini by CoolSculpting.

What is the CoolMini?

Coolsculpting is one of the most versatile treatments for attacking unsightly fat pockets. The process literally freezes the fat cells away without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue. It’s effective and doesn’t involve any invasive surgery like liposuction with its associated recovery period and the necessity to awkwardly ask for time off work.

The CoolMini is the latest addition to the CoolSculpting portfolio, offering a more targeted treatment to tackle those harder-to-reach areas.

Targeted treatment

What makes the CoolMini treatment different is that it’s targeted specifically at smaller areas which can often be the most stubborn. For someone who is already generally well-toned this could be the solution to achieve the perfect physique.

So if you’ve found the perfect dress for the office party, but don’t like the way your armpits bulge out over the top, or you feel that your fleshy knees just ruin the effect of that slinky bodycon number, then the CoolMini could be just the treatment for you.

Because it’s more targeted than the full CoolSculpting process it can be carried out more quickly so don’t rule out lunch time appointments before going back to work.

Come in to talk to us here at Cambridge Clear Beauty if you want to find out more about the CoolMini or other CoolSculpting procedures and how we can help you finally get you the figure you want.

Looking for stocking fillers for grown-ups? Why not think about some seriously effective skincare products?

If you want to improve your skin and tackle signs of ageing, but aren’t quite ready to consider aesthetic treatments, or even if you already have regular Botox injections but want to give it a boost at home, why not consider our range of clinically proven skincare?

Three levels of skincare stocking fillers

Over the Counter (OTC) products are available all around us from the local pharmacy to supermarkets and they all claim amazing results. The sheer abundance of skincare products can leave you overwhelmed without any real understanding of what’s right for your skin.

These types of products, which you can pick up on the high street or the supermarket are going to be purely cosmetic and will only have superficial effects on the top layer of skin.

On the other hand, if you see a GP for a pharmaceutical skin product then it’s generally not likely to have an effect on the skin’s overall health or appearance but will be focused on a medical cure.

In between these two extremes there’s another, intermediate level of cosmeceutical products which are designed to have more penetrating effects on lower levels of the skin, producing more profound improvements in complexion and skin health. These products can make fantastic stocking fillers for teenage children, or even for grown-ups.

It’s all in the delivery method

One of the key differences between OTC and cosmeceutical products is the delivery method. At the molecular level OTC products tend to be quite large and therefore can’t penetrate the skin whereas cosmeceutical products are “wrapped up” in tiny liposomes which penetrate to the lower levels.

The most important thing to do is seek the advice of skin care specialists about the right product for you and your skin.

Skilled professionals, such as the aestheticians here at Cambridge Clear Beauty will be able to guide you through the maze of different products and be able to recommend a tried and tested solution.

2016 has been a tough year for everyone and all that stress can really take a toll on your skin. Eliminate those tell-tale signs of angst and get your youthful glow back in time for all those Christmas parties by visiting us here at Cambridge Clear Beauty and booking in for some treatments that will put the life back in your skin.

Range of treatments

We have a number of treatment options, from chemical peels to laser skin rejuvenation, to deal with lacklustre, grey complexions or poor skin texture.

Chemical peels are one of the oldest treatments for resurfacing skin and work by applying a solution which makes the top layer of skin blister and peel away.

The new skin underneath is smoother and generally less wrinkled than the older skin. Whilst it’s generally rejuvenating and will improve the look and feel of the skin it’s particularly good for reducing fine lines under the eyes and mouth, tackling sun damage and scars and even treating certain types of acne.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing (LSR) is growing in popularity, not least because of the ongoing developments in the technology. Like the chemical peel LSR can help with scarring sun damage and reducing wrinkles. In this case the laser is applied directly to the skin, which removes the outermost layer.

Normally the procedure will be carried out under a local or general anaesthetic and the patient can expect some initial discomfort whilst a crust forms on the surface but after this sheds the new skin is revealed.

The procedure also stimulates the production of collagen which is generally beneficial to healthy skin and will continue to have positive effects over time.

So, if you want to throw off that jaded 2016 look before Christmas in time for 2017 book a consultation with us to talk through our treatments and find out how we can put the sparkle back into your skin.
