How does Cool Sculpting achieve significant fat reduction?
Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the surrounding tissue so Cool Sculpting was developed to safely target just the fat cells. They are frozen in a process called cryolipolysis, are killed off and over time your body will safely eliminate the destroyed fat cells, revealing more sculpted contours.
Am I suitable for the CoolSculpting procedure?
A full assessment will be made to ensure that CoolSculpting will be able to deliver the results you’re hoping to achieve. It’s best suited to men and women who are near or at their ideal body weight but unhappy with bulges of fat that they just can’t shift, even with diet and exercise.
CoolSculpting can be performed on the flanks, abdomen, thighs and can also reduce the appearance of a double chin.
Mr Tariq Ahmad is a leading Cambridge plastic surgeon who offers the full range of cosmetic surgery procedures for the face and body and can advise you whether liposuction or other body reshaping surgical procedures may be more appropriate.
What can I expect from my CoolSculpting treatment?
The CoolSculpting device is placed on the target area that has been identified and the cooling process begins. Initially, there will be a feeling of pressure and intense cold but this will dissipate. Some patients report a pulling or tugging sensation and a feeling of numbness, but the CoolSculpting treatment is usually well tolerated and most will watch videos, read, work or even have a nap during the procedure.
After your procedure you may have temporary numbness in the treatment area and it may appear red, swollen or bruised, but typically this is a very safe treatment with few side effects. Usually you can return to your normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Over one million CoolSculpting fat reduction procedures have been performed worldwide and it has been proven to be gentle, safe and effective.
When should I expect to see the results of my CoolSculpting fat reduction treatment?
Results should be noticeable as soon as a month after your procedure with the most dramatic results after two months. However, your body will continue to eliminate the frozen fat cells for up to six months post procedure.
It is not necessary to adopt a special diet or exercise routine after your CoolSculpting procedure but patients are usually keen to maintain their results by keeping to a stable weight.
An individually tailored treatment programme will be devised in your consultation with Mr Tariq Ahmad and he will advise you on how many sessions you may require to achieve the results you’re hoping for.

Our favourite time of the year is already year. Time has truly flown by and it almost feels like yesterday when we were writing this article and making our New Years’ resolutions for 2019!
Whilst we may have not succeeded in achieving most of them (yeap..that “chocolate” lark, won’t go away”), it was most definitely a successful and productive year for our practice and all of our staff personally and professionally.
Our team has now also grown with a brand new member, highly experienced aesthetician Lynsey and we now offer a variety of new treatments and safe options for your next visit. Our amazing office staff enjoyed a lovely Xmas meal last week and were pleased to conclude that we treated over 500 patients in the last year alone.
Dr Ahmad and his team also attended a plethora of events and shows that he has been invited to this year and assisted in growing the Practice’s brand name nationwide through his vast experience and years of thousands of treatments performed.
..and guess what. We do not slow down this time of year – in fact, it actually tends to be one of our busiest times as our patients have arranged to have time off work for surgical recovery and they often wish to have their breast reduction or second-stage/revision procedure after breast cancer reconstruction now.
In addition and as noted in our previous blogs this month, winter serves as the perfect time to recovery from a cosmetic surgery procedure so that our patients are READY for their next adventure in a few months!
As such, our doors are OPEN and we are still working throughout the holiday season and will only be closing our doors for a few days!
Schedule: Closing on 20th of December 2019 and re-opening on 2nd of January 2020!
So once again, best wishes from our Team for a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year!
It has been a privilege to serve our patients this year and we are looking forward to 2020 with all its new challenges ahead!

Liposuction and CoolSculpting and Liposuction are two of our most popular treatments here at Cambridge Clear Beauty and Cosmetic Surgeon Cambridge. They are widely considered as the most popular fat removal cosmetic procedures but nonetheless have distinct differences between them that not many are aware. At our Clinic, Dr Ahma meets and works with each individual patient to determine the best treatment for his or her cosmetic goals and hence possesses experience of many different cases, allowing him to offer an impartial and well rounded opinion.
It is consequently a common question we come across or are asked by our patients: How does Liposuction compare to CoolSculpting and how do they actually work?
Starting from the more known fact out there, liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure whereas Coolsculpting is not. It would be easy for us to simply list the many differences but this is something that already exists online so we thought it better, to provide a useful and clear table comparing the 2 treatments as well as a brief Infographic with information on which treatment is the best for you.
So let’s have a look at our detailed table below, created with the assistance of Dr Ahmad, our consultant at CCB and also the clinic founder:
| Treatment | Comparison | Liposuction | Coolsculpting |
| Reduce Fat | Both treatments are known to reduce fat | √ | √ |
|
Permanently remove fat |
Both treatments are known to permanently remove fat from the targeted areas |
√ |
√ |
|
Invasive |
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure unlike Liposuction |
√ |
– |
| Safety | Liposuction is slightly more dangerous in terms of safety as it includes anaesthesia. Avoid liposuction if you have heart problems, blood clotting disorders, or are a pregnant woman | Liposuction is an invasive surgery done with anaesthesia. It may consequently include side effects such as blood clots, negative reactions to anaesthesia, or other serious complications | You may experience short-term bruising or skin sensitivity after CoolSculpting. Side effects usually resolve within a few week and are generally consider very minor in comparison to Lipo |
| Convenience | You will begin to see visible results from your CoolSculpting treatment after a few weeks. Full results from liposuction may not be noticeable for a few months | Liposuction can often be done as an outpatient surgery. The surgery takes 1 to 2 hours, and recovery may take several days. You typically only need one session | CoolSculpting is done as an outpatient procedure. Each session takes about an hour, and you may need a few sessions spread out a couple weeks apart |
| Efficacy | Both procedures permanently destroy fat cells in the treated areas, but you can still develop fat in other areas of your body. | You may be able to remove up to 5 litters, or about 11 pounds, of fat with liposuction. Removing more than that is generally not considered safe | CoolSculpting can eliminate up to 25 percent of the fat cells in any given part of a person’s body |
| Recovery Time | Recovery time for Liposuction is substantially longer and could sometimes even take months unlike Coolsculpting that hardly has any recovery time whatsoever | Recovery time is usually a few days. Always follow your provider’s recommendations for recovery, which may include wearing a special bandage or limiting activities.
You may need to wait 2 to 4 weeks before you can safely resume strenuous activity. |
There is no recovery time necessary for CoolSculpting |
However, not both treatments are suitable for everyone and that is not only down to the treatment area. Generally speaking, if the bulges your looking to un-bulge are in a part of your body that is a good fit for the application head of the CoolSculpting™ equipment and would fit into the size of a cup when pinched, then CoolSculpting is probably the best option for you. However, if you’re looking for more fast and radical results, have a bigger area that you’d like to un-bulge, or are concerned with loose hanging skin after the fat is removed, you might be a good candidate for liposuction.
As a rule of thumb, Liposuction is known to be able to reduce fat mainly in the waist, abdomen, hips, buttocks, back, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, face and neck whereas CoolSculpting is used to remove fat in the abdomen, flanks, knees, neck and upper arms. Find out whether liposuction or CoolSculpting can help you achieve your body sculpting goals this summer.

It’s one of the first parts of our body to betray the signs of ageing, but it’s also the one of the hardest spots to exercise: the neck and chin area. Sure, you can spend hours gurning away and twisting your head into all sorts of positions in an attempt to tone the neck muscles and get rid of that double chin, but more often than not it makes the matter worse.
What’s more, sagging neck muscles really age you by pulling the rest of the face down, making people look older than they really are. And due to the inability to get rid of the fat naturally, the only thing you can do with a double chin or a chook neck is to hope that turtle-necks never go out of fashion. That is, until now.
There are only two neck-fat treatments that have been approved by America’s Food and Drug Administration. One of them involves five monthly treatments, consisting of as many as 50 injections in the chin area per session.
The other is CoolSculpting, a revolutionary treatment that can eliminate the body fat that exercise and dieting can’t.
Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting is not a quick-fix fat reduction treatment: it’s the procedure that hones in on areas of stubborn fat that are nigh-on impossible to get rid of.
Instead of sucking fat out (only for it to return, if the client isn’t adhering to a healthy diet and exercise regime, it zones in on problem areas with incredible precision, destroys the fat cells by freezing them, and then leaves it up to your natural metabolic functions to flush them out safely and effectively.
And once gone, problematic fat cells don’t come back. CoolSculpting has been around for a while, but it’s only recently that the latest upgrade – the CoolMini – has made it possible to treat smaller areas like the neck and double chin.
Interested? Get in touch with us and find out all you need to know in order to bring your neck back into line.
