Some skin cysts can be treated by the so called ‘evagination’ technique. This is a specialised plastic surgical procedure where the cyst is not removed whole which would otherwise necessitate a wound, and so scar, that is long enough to bring the cyst out. With the evagination technique, the cyst is first emptied with a much smaller incision and then taken out by being pulled out from within, in a fashion a little similar to turning the lining of the cyst inside out. This can result in a much smaller scar. Some skin lumps need to be removed whole and very carefully, with meticulous technique to obtain the finest scar possible.
