Blepharoplasty surgery is now available at Cambridge Clear Beauty, but what exactly does it involve?
Here at Cambridge Clear Beauty we provide a number of high-quality/risk-free minor surgery procedures that can be undertaken to rejuvenate, lighten and freshen the appearance of tired, sagging or heavy upper eyelids and lower eyelids
Many people acquire excess skin in the upper eyelids as part of the process of naturally getting older and this may be considered normal. However, in some cases and if this starts to interfere with vision or function of the eyelid apparatus it is advised and can warrant treatment. This is where Blepharoplasty comes in and is able to help you resolve those issues with a (lower lid) procedure.
But what is Blepharoplasty? What does the procedure entail and how much does it cost? Let’s have a look at some of the “finer” details below and eliminate any fears you may have for your next procedure at Cambridge Clear Beauty.
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a minor surgical procedure that defines the removal of excess fat and skin on the upper and/or lower eyelid area to change appearance or function. An eyelid reduction (blepharoplasty) removes the surplus skin and protruding fat to produce a more alert appearance and help hide or minimise scars.
What does the procedure involve?
The procedure is usually performed under the so-called “twilight” sedation, which simplified means recovery time is rapid and you are able to go home on the same day. Incisions are made following the natural lines of the eyelids, just below the lashes in the lower lids and in the creases of the upper lids. These incisions are then extended a little way into the laughter lines at the corner of the eye and it is through this incision that surplus fat and skin is removed and sagging muscle tightened at the same time. In the lower eyelid the cutting of skin may not be necessary and fat may be removed from inside the eyelid.
What are the risks?
As all medical procedures, blepharoplasty surgery also carries some uncertainty and potential risks. Nonetheless, if you perform your due diligence and make sure you are using an experienced Plastic surgeon (BAPRAS certified), complications are infrequent and usually minor. You can reduce the risks by closely following your surgeon’s instructions both before and after surgery. for which Dr Ahmad will provide a full aftercare plan as well as be available for any queries or questions you may have post-operation!
Do you offer this treatment?
Lower eyelid ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty + ‘pinch plus’ blepharoplasty are the 2 treatments we offer as a full blepharoplasty can only be undertaken via the NHS or at a Hospital where Dr Ahmad does provide this treatment.
These are not as aggressive as a full lower eyelid ‘blepharoplasty’ (as undertaken in hospital) but with very worthwhile improvements for some selected patients.
The simplest procedure is a ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty. The pure ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty can be undertaken as an out patient under local anaesthesia and involves carefully trimming redundant skin and a sliver of muscle under the lower eyelid lashes, and nothing else. As such, only a small amount can be removed otherwise there is a risk of altering the level of the lower eyelid but this technique is all that is needed for some patients.
A lower eyelid ‘pinch plus’ blepharoplasty with Mr Ahmad still involves removal of excess redundant skin and a sliver of muscle but would also involve strengthening and reinforcement of the lower eyelid with a special buried suture (canthopexy), a muscle hitch or both, and can also involve an element of minor cheek lift.
How long does eyelid surgery take?
Upper eyelid surgery takes about 30 minutes, while a lower-lid surgery can be done in 30 to 40 minutes.
What is the pricing like for such a procedure with Cambridge Clear Beauty?
We are open and transparent about all our pricing and treatments and provide full aftercare as well as guidance, tips and advice. Lower eyelid ‘pinch’ blepharoplasty starts from £1200 per eye whereas ‘pinch plus’ blepharoplasty from £3100.
