Like a breaking voice, hair where there wasn’t any before and an outbreak of zits, gynaecomastia can be one of the facts of life for a teenage boy.

It’s a rather scary-sounding name for a hard yet tender swelling behind the nipples that give the impression of breasts, brought about by hormonal changes.

In most cases, the condition calms down and eventually goes away as you finish your transformation from boy to man. But sometimes it doesn’t.

Why won’t gynaecomastia go away?

Gynaecomastia – otherwise known as ‘man-boobs’, or worse – is often dismissed as the inevitable result of a poor diet and little to no exercise, but that isn’t always the case.

True, the chest area is one of the first parts of the male body to take on and store fat during weight gain, but what explains the lean and fit people who still have breast-like protuberances, which are even more prominent when the rest of their upper bodies are as trim as can be?

There are a number of possible reasons for gynaecomastia, but most of them are linked to an increase in the oestrogen hormone – this can be due to natural hormonal changes in the body, or as a result of a particular medication.

How do I get rid of them?

medical aesthetics is the simplest and most effective way to reduce the shape and contour of your chest. The method most commonly used is a minor liposuction procedure, followed by a removal of the prominent breast tissue. Yes, there will be scarring around the nipple, but extremely minor (and eventually undetectable, if you have chest hair).

Gynaecomastia is more common than you might think – but so is male breast reduction surgery. It’s an incredibly simple and a hugely effective procedure, with the bare minimum of time taken out of your day-to-day routine.
