Right now you could be wasting money on skincare products by stopping them from doing their job properly. How? The order of application. When you are spending money on skincare products, ensure you maximise their effect by applying them in the correct order. Leaving you with better skin.

Before you start your skincare routine it is vital you begin with a cleanse. Leaving it clean and ready for additional products.

1) Cleanser

Cleanser will remove make-up and dirt from your skin whilst hydrating it.

2) Use a Mask or Exfoliate (optional)

Should you decide you want to skin your skin a little more TLC, now would be the best time to use a peel-off mask, clay mask or exfoliate. Tip – if you are using a sheet mask, use this after you’ve toned your skin.

3) Toner

A toner will clean any additional dirt/ grime or makeup residue that your cleanser didn’t as well as any minerals or chlorine from your water. The toner will tighten pores and help you to restore your skin’s pH levels for a more even skin tone.

4) Essence

Essences provide an extra layer of hydration.

5) The Sheet Mask (optional)

If you want to use a Sheet Mask now is the best time to use it. Skin Masks would be used when you want ingredients to penetrate deep into the skin. The mask will seal everything in and allow your skin to rest in a saturated hydrating, brightening or anti-aging environment. Tip – this is a great time to add any spot treatment.

6) Serum

The processes above are excellent for cleaning and hydrating skin. However, a serum carrying active ingredients penetrates into the epidermis. Resulting in a highly-concentrated dose to fix any skin issues you may have. E.g, wrinkles, brightness, acne or hydration

7) Eye Cream

Next, you want to apply an eye cream. This helps to:

  • brighten under eyes
  • reduce puffiness
  • Moisturise.

8) Moisturiser

A good moisturiser gives you the following benefits:

  • Hydrates skin
  • Replenish skin
  • Restores your skin’s pH levels
  • Nourishes and repairs any issues such as dry, flaky skin.

9) Facial Oil

Often this last step is forgotten on anyones skincare routine. Maybe because people don’t want oily skin or because they think their skin is already well nourished. However, facial oils are very powerful, and when applied right at the end of your skincare routine can penetrate even deeper into the skin. Resulting in the following benefits:

  • Seals in moisture and
  • Adds extra nourishment
  • Healthy glow
  • Protects and repairs skin

Always apply last as this can block other products from doing their job.
