Spring is officially here..it is a time of renewal, glowing and self care as your body transitions from colder to warmer days. Birds chirping, flowers blooming and your skin emerging from an intensive winter to a delightful summery weather.  As soon as the days start getting longer and spring is on the doorstep, it is known as the time to put away your wool tights, cardigans and gloves. It’s time to show off your skin again and bring out the spring fashions and the confidence out!

After many months of alternating between humid and dry indoor air and the harsh cold outside, your skin is definitely ready for a shift in seasonal skin care so here are a few useful tips for the period ahead as well as summer which is just around the corner.

Moisturise

Time to get rid of that dry winter skin and the best way is to use a gentle scrub for your whole body. It will not only remove dead skin cells but also stimulate cell renewal and make your skin look much smoother and rosier. Ideally, we would advise to make use of a product with a cream base as this ensures it contains ultra-fine scrub granules and beneficial lipids that moisturise your skin. Swapping your moisturizer for something a little lighter is key as our skin tends to hold more water in the spring and summer, so you won’t need as much protection.

Exfoliate

The next step in the glow game is exfoliation. “Contrary to popular belief,” Patricia Wexler a New York Dermatologist says, “we actually need to exfoliate when our skin is extra dry.” Wexler advises patients to slough off dead skin and unblock pores with a gentle exfoliating cleanser rather than with harsh scrubs, and says a formula with a small amount of glycolic acid will do the trick.

Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is key to both your mental and physical health. If you are seeking beautiful skin it is paramount you also eat healthily. As it is spring, it is best to indulge in fresh fruit and crispy vegetables as they are both healthy and good for your skin. Generally speaking, foods with Vitamin A, such as carrots, broccoli and spinach stimulate cell division, promote the formation of elastin fibres and prevent dry skin. Ideally, anything between three to five portions of fruit and vegetables a day will help ensure that your skin is supplied with important nutrients and you can look forward to having soft skin again.

Exercise

Warmer temperatures and more light give us more incentive and make us feel more balanced. Take advantage of your renewed energy levels and get moving! If you enjoy working in the garden in spring, you can do something good for your body with a couple of effective exercises. Do some knee bends using a rake or brush as a stabiliser – you will be rewarded with firm thighs. In the spring, we are more likely to go exploring outdoors and into nature. Why not plan a cycle trip at the weekend and enjoy feeling the first warm rays of the sun on your skin

Be YOU

Its spring..its time to enjoy life. Enjoy the sun, weather, heat, outdoors and the beautiful surroundings. Always remember that the best you, is a happy you and no matter what products or treatments you use, it is key that you control your happiness. Give it your all no matter what that may be, be passionate and learn to appreciate the small pleasures of life. Sun has the gift of making us happy, so take advantage of it and live life to the fullest.
